We haven’t had a professional photo shoot since Greenlee was born four years ago. As far as my husband Scott is concerned, I am constantly snapping pictures and we don’t have any room to display any more. So when the opportunity presented itself to be photographed by the very talented Lindsay May of Classic Kids, I jumped at the chance.
When Lindsay called to schedule our photo shoot, she spoke to me at length and was extremely interested in learning about my family.
Lindsay explained to me, “Although our approach to all kids is the same, we do cater each shoot to the child or family. We take the time to figure out what each individual girl or boy responds to, get to know them and make sure they are comfortable. The photographer always works with an assistant to make sure that kids are entertained and attended to. We take extra care to learn individual preferences, especially with kids on the spectrum. We have seen many different children, from different backgrounds and with different needs, and understand that one approach does not work for everyone.”
As soon as you enter the studio, you know you’ve arrived somewhere special and are going to have a high-end experience.
The four of us kicked off our shoes, were warmly greeted and offered beverages. The kids were encouraged to go run on the white paper which was set up as the backdrop.
We especially appreciated that there was an assistant on hand, as well as fun toys for the kids to discover. It was seriously like the best play date ever for Ian and Greenlee. I was so impressed that Lindsay had remembered me telling her that The Meatball Shop is Ian’s favorite restaurant. Instead of telling the kids to “say cheese”, Lindsay would talk about meatballs.
Lindsay captured genuine emotions.
My heart was melting when Scott was down on the ground playing with both kids. I couldn’t wait to come back two weeks later and see the proofs.
It’s nearly impossible to get a decent photo with both kids. And instead of being behind the camera, I got to be included in many of the photos.
Classic Kids’ specialty is distinctive, fine art black and white prints and not on digital files. They use their own print lab within the company and are extremely proud of their archival, museum quality printed work.
“We think everyone should have beautiful printed photos and be able to enjoy them displayed in their home. Your family is the best kind of art! Technology breaks and memories get lost! So important to print!” says Lindsay.
Throughout the entire process, its quite obvious that Classic Kids values the relationship it establishes with their clients. I wholeheartedly recommend having your family’s portraits taken by Classic Kids. You’ll never regret having your family’s memories captured. I am going to treasure these photos forever. This family portrait of us is pure perfection.
