Justin Roberts and the Not Ready for Naptime Players, America’s favorite powerpop poets for the young and young at heart, take the stage in The Mysterious Hat running at The New Victory Theater for a limited engagement on April 25 – 26, 2015. A brand new concert experience designed especially for the New Vic, The Mysterious Hat brings Roberts’ indie hits to the NYC family scene with intelligent and whimsically rocking music for kids and their parents.
Bop along to catchy compositions of happy harmonies, bursts of brass and hand-clapping choruses when two-time GRAMMY® nominee for Best Children’s Album (Jungle Gym, 2011; Recess, 2014) Justin Roberts performs at The New Victory with the Not Ready for Naptime Players. With appearances by his puppet friends Willy the Whale, Lil Dave and Tim, Justin and the gang discover a “mysterious hat” while performing both brand new songs and beloved favorites. Hits like “Willy Was a Whale,” “Pop Fly” and “Yellow Bus” will be performed, along with songs from his latest GRAMMY-nominated, Parents’ Choice and NAPPA Gold Award-winning album, Recess. Lauded by The New York Times as “the Judy Blume of kiddie rock,” Roberts’ unique musical stylings are compared to Elvis Costello, Buddy Holly, Nick Lowe and Weezer.
Along with Justin Roberts, the Not Ready for Naptime Players are Liam Davis on electric guitar, keyboards and vocals; Gerald Dowd on drums and vocals; Jacqueline Schimmel on bass and vocals; and David Winer on trumpet, keyboard and percussion.
The Mysterious Hat has a running time of 50 minutes with no intermission, and is best enjoyed by kids ages 4 through 7.
