I am the one who stays home with my children day and night. I’ve changed almost all the dirty diapers and yet I’m feeling like mashed potatoes and chopped liver while Daddy is truffled French fries and foie gras. Ian has been telling me that he had “the best day ever with Daddy.”And this week Greenlee learned to say “Hi Dad,” and repeats it frequently.
Don’t get me wrong. I absolutely love the relationship Scott has with his children. I knew he would be a wonderful family man and that’s one of the reasons I fell madly in love with him and married him.
To Ian, you are: T-Rex and tickle time. You come home from work with “chicken from the Donald” and his favorite out-of-season Jamba Juice. Weekend runs to Pinkberry. Singing silly made-up songs together, especially “Wash Your Body” during Shower Time. The daily morning and evening Brushing Your Teeth ritual.
Greenlee is definitely a Daddy’s Girl and for good reason. She is probably the only person who has ever had the power to wrap you around her little finger. She loves Bubble Time and Bath Time with you in charge and and Ian co-supervising.
There’s so much I love about you. You are the father of my children and responsible for making me a mom. Seven years later, I am still convinced my dad sent you to me. I am in awe of how much everyone–young and old–admires you. Our co-op board wants to make you the permanent treasurer with no time limit. Friends and family turn to you for career advice and rely on your intelligence and financial acumen. You are not an emotional man, and yet you feel bad when a local business or mom and pop shop closes.
There’s only one of you but a gazillion reasons why we love you so much.
Happy, happy Father’s Day!
