Last September my husband and I had a phenomenal time at Travel + Leisure Global Bazaar and we had been anxiously looking forward to attending again this weekend at at The Lexington Avenue Armory in New York City.
Apparently word must have gotten out at how fantastic the event was because last night’s kick-off Friday night was sold-out. It was jam-packed with much longer lines than we encountered in 2011 (it kinda reminded me of the downside of traveling at peak times) I must have eaten 180 plates. It was worth waiting for Chef Tim Love to serve me his delicious elk burger with foie gras and jam. I watched Katie Couric enjoy one a few minutes later. I couldn’t get enough of Imports from Marrakesh Ltd’s mint tea in the Morocco pavilion. Chef Scott Conant’s ravioli with truffles were delicious. My husband was very content with the Uruguayan caviar, and flutes of Nicolas Feuillatte Champagne, all compliments of Seabourn Cruise Line.
I wish I had been able to snap pictures but it was difficult enough to try to eat the morsels with one hand. I used my bulky cast almost as a tray. I did have a lot of fun at Baume Et Mercier’s Moments Captured photo booth.
There’s still time to purchase tickets to attend. Sunday, September 30, 2012 is Family Day and dedicated to kid-friendly fun. Expose your children to the world’s diverse and vibrant cultures with a full slate of exciting events. Come hungry to taste the global foods from the food trucks outside and then continue indoors to enjoy the spectacular performances from different cultures. Who can resist frosting—and eating—your own cupcake creation at Celebrity Cruises’ cupcake decorating sessions. Artists will expertly paint your face in the tribal style of the Chilean Rapa Nui at the face painting station. Other exotic activities await at Hilton Resorts’ booth, where you can strum the ukulele, learn the time-honored hula, blow a conch shell, and more. For an educational wind-down, celebrities such as Andrew McCarthy will be reading children’s books to support the international non-profit Room to Read.
