As soon as we got to The Magic Kingdom, I was flooded with memories from when I went for my 5th birthday with my parents.
The Magic Kingdom truly is “the happiest place on earth.” I can’t think of a better place to have recharged after Frankenstorm.
Prior to our trip, my 3 year old son had absolutely no interest in Disney or any of its characters. The one thing on my must-do list was go on “It’s a Small World.” I enjoyed taking my son as much as I enjoyed going on it with my parents when I was only a few years older than Ian is.
Without a doubt, Ian’s favorite ride was Dumbo. It’s the only ride we went on twice and the second time we did it during the firework spectacular making it even more magical. The circus-themed play area warmed him up as we wait for our turn to ride.
My guys got to experience the glory of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as Scott drove an Indy 500-style race car on a guided track all the way to the Victory Circle while Ian rode shot-gun.
The Mad Tea Party was also not my cup of tea. I did enough spinning in my former life as a publicist but it was fun to watch Scott & Ian take a whirl in a giant tea cup.
Ian also enjoyed dancing along with the Country Bear Jamboree.
Even though we had such a limited amount of time at The Magic Kingdom, we were able to accomplish almost everything we wanted to do. Ian fell asleep before we were able to take him on Aladdin’s Magic Carpet Ride. We also opted not to do the Haunted Mansion in case it was too scary for Ian. Scott skipped Space Mountain this time around.
We made new family memories and I already can’t wait to go back from a longer visit!
How old were you &/or your kids the first time at Disney?
